ODOT adds six new road cameras in southern Oregon

 

ROSEBURG – A new project will make it a little easier and safer for drivers to plan a trip through southern Oregon.

 

ODOT recently completed installation of road cameras and weather stations at six new locations, including three along Interstate 5.

 

  • I-5 at East Pine in Central Point (milepost 33)
  • I-5 at Canyon Mountain (milepost 90)
  • I-5 at Rice Hill (milepost 147)
  • U.S. 101 (Oregon Coast Highway) at Bullards Bridge in Bandon (milepost 259)
  • Oregon 38 (Umpqua Highway) at Wells Creek (milepost 18)
  • Oregon 62 (Crater Lake Highway) at Union Creek (milepost 52)

 

The cameras are now online and can be viewed at ODOT’s travel website, www.TripCheck.com.

 

The TripCheck system was introduced in 2000, and ODOT currently has cameras at about 280 locations on the state highway system, including 35 in Douglas, Coos, Curry, Josephine and Jackson counties.

 

Most locations feature two cameras, one pointed in each direction of traffic, as well as weather and pavement sensors.

 

The cameras and weather stations allow motorists to gather real-time information before traveling through areas that are prone to poor weather or traffic congestion.

 

The system also helps ODOT maintenance crews monitor road conditions and quickly respond to hazards.
