Time Served Credit Information
A recent Oregon Supreme Court ruling has changed how the Department of Corrections applies Time Served Credit (TSC) pursuant to ORS 137.370(4). This may affect how certain jail time is credited toward some sentences.
The Department is reviewing certain sentences for possible changes to Time Served Credits based on that recent court decision. If your loved one's sentence qualifies and any changes are made, they will be notified when the review is complete.
The Department is running a statewide query to identify impacted AICs. Reviews will be prioritized based on upcoming release dates. Not every AIC will be eligible for review.
What This Doesn’t Mean:
- This change is based on a new legal interpretation—it is not the result of an error by DOC or its staff.
- AICs do not need to submit requests for sentence reviews. Every eligible sentence will be reviewed in due course.
This month, the director shares updates and highlights on the state of our agency – things that impact our staff, adults in custody, friends and family, and stakeholders.

Holiday Mail Reminders
The holidays are coming, and we know many of you will be sending more mail than usual to your loved ones. We want to make sure everything you send gets through. Please follow these important rules:
Envelopes must be completely white, both inside and out. Colored envelopes will be refused immediately before they even enter processing.
Cardstock is not allowed. This includes most greeting cards you buy at the store. Sending photocopies of cards printed on regular white paper is allowed.
We understand these rules are frustrating. We would love to accept colorful holiday cards too. Unfortunately, some people try to use cards and colored paper to sneak drugs into the facility. These restrictions help keep everyone safe.
If you have questions about what you can send, please visit our website or contact us before mailing anything. This will save time and make sure your correspondence reaches your loved one.
Thank you for understanding and following these rules. If you have any questions, you can find contact information for each Mailroom on our website, in the Mailroom Questions section.
