Community Involvement Advisory Committee Recruitment & Information Session

The Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development (DLCD) and the Land Conservation and Development Commission (LCDC) are seeking volunteers to serve on the state’s Community Involvement Advisory Committee (CIAC). Members of the CIAC are appointed by LCDC to provide advice and guidance on equitable community engagement in land use planning. The CIAC is a permanent committee established by state law (ORS 197.160) and its work centers on Statewide Planning Goal 1, which is focused on community engagement.

DLCD is recruiting three new members to be the representative for two at-large seats and for Oregon's Congressional District 6 which covers Polk and Yamhill counties as well as parts of Marion, Clackamas and Washington counties. (map)

CIAC Members

• Are advisory to Department of Land Conservation and Development staff and commission on matters related to community engagement.
• Meet roughly four times a year. One meeting they are invited to attend in person, all have virtual options.
• Are a statewide advisory committee that is fully empaneled with ten members, one from each congressional district and four at-large.
• Develop an biennial workplan in collaboration with the LCDC that guides agency work and development of new tools and resources related to community engagement.
• Have the opportunity to serve on advisory committees that are specific to land use issues. (Right now, we have involvement from CIAC members on advisory committees for housing, farm and forest policy updates, solar siting, and a definition of “cultural areas” specific to Oregon’s tribes.)
• Are not expected to “represent” their congressional district.
• Do not need to be experts in Oregon’s land use planning program.
