Position Available: Land Conservation and Development Commissioner for Eastern Oregon Representation
Overview:
The Oregon Land Conservation and Development Commission (LCDC or commission) and Oregon Governor’s Office are seeking a dedicated individual to serve as a Commissioner, representing the unique interests and needs of Eastern Oregon. This volunteer position plays a vital role in shaping land-use policies, ensuring local plan compliance, and coordinating state and local planning efforts across the Eastern Oregon region's 17 counties. This commission position will assist the Department of Land Conservation and Development in updating land use planning goals and laws and in carrying out the department’s 2023-2031 Strategic Plan.
Responsibilities:
- Attend approximately four commission meetings per year, held both in Salem and various locations across the state. Travelling within the state to attend Land Conservation and Development Commission meetings is expected.
- Represent the interests of Eastern Oregon in statewide and regional land-use policy discussions and decisions.
- Collaborate with fellow commissioners to guide the work of the department and implement effective strategies.
- Adopt statewide land use planning goals and implementing Oregon Administrative Rules.
- Assure local plan compliance with Oregon’s statewide land use planning goals.
- Oversee Oregon’s networked Coastal Zone Management Program.
- Direct and review the performance of the Director of the Department of Land Conservation and Development.
- Commissioners are expected to actively engage and regularly participate once they are confirmed and appointed.
Qualifications:
- Residency in one of the 17 counties of Eastern Oregon.
- An understanding of local issues, development challenges, and the diverse landscapes of the region.
- Proven experience in public service, community advocacy, or land-use planning.
- Ability to commit to a four-year term and attend regular commission meetings.
Additional Information:
- This is an unpaid, volunteer posisiton appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Oregon Senate.
- LCDC members serve a four-year term, with a maximum of two full terms.
Commission Meetings:
Approximately four meetings annually, held in Salem and various locations across Oregon.
Meetings involve directing departmental work and deliberating on land-use matters.
