Department of Land Conservation and Development Approves City of Newport's Housing Production Strategy

The Department of Land Conservation and Development (DLCD or department) has approved the City of Newport's Housing Production Strategy (HPS) with one condition.

DLCD received notice of the adoption of the City of Newport’s HPS on June 6, 2023. According to administrative rule, the department posted the HPS for a 45-day public comment period on June 16, 2023. At the close of the public comment period on July 31, 2023, the department did not receive any comments.

The department is required to complete this review and issue a decision within 120 days of the city submittal. Accordingly, the department informed the city of the final approval decision today, October 13, 2023. The decision is final and may not be appealed.
