Governor Tina Kotek today announced that due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, Oregon SNAP recipients may not receive their November benefits on time. The Trump Administration has instructed states not to begin the process of distributing November SNAP benefits until further notice. This directive affects approximately 757,000 people in Oregon, including children, older adults and working families.
We know this announcement will have direct implications for our work. Staff can expect a significant increase in:
- Incoming calls
- Office visits
- Questions from concerned community members
Many of the individuals reaching out will be feeling anxious, confused or frustrated. Your patience, empathy and clarity will make a real difference in how they experience this challenging time.
