Join us Oct. 24 in Salem to celebrate NDEAM
Vocational Rehabilitation, the State Rehabilitation Council and Oregon Commission for the Blind invite you to a special celebration of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM)!
- Date: Tuesday, Oct. 24
- Time: noon to 1:30 p.m.
- Location: Barbara Roberts Human Services Building lobby, 500 Summer St. N.E.
- Accessibility: American Sign Language interpretation and Spanish language interpretation will be provided. For questions about accessibility or to request an accommodation, contact l.downin@odhs.oregon.gov.
No registration is required. Refreshments and sweet treats will be provided!
This is an opportunity to hear the success stories of people who have found meaningful employment with the help of Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) and the Oregon Commission for the Blind (OCB). This event is also a time to thank the legislators who worked hard to ensure people with disabilities can find employment and a place in their communities.
You’ll celebrate with Sydney Hoeft, who completed an internship coordinated by OCB and Oregon’s Higher Education Coordinating Commission. With this work experience, Sydney is better prepared for career success.
Former VR client Kevin Glenn will tell his dynamic story of living in a van with unmanaged and undiagnosed disabilities to becoming manager at a Fortune 500 international company.
INCIGHT co-founder Scott Hatley will also share his personal VR story. Born with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and a graduate of the University of Portland, Hatley is passionate about busting the prevailing stigma in society so those with barriers can leverage obstacles in their life and contribute to their fullest potential.
These successes show how individuals and communities thrive when everyone who wants to work has the opportunity. Come celebrate with us as we work toward advancing employment access and equity for Oregonians with disabilities.
Help us spread the word! Please share this invitation with your networks.
