(Salem – August 18, 2023) Oregon Medicaid Director Dana Hittle announced that she will step down from her role, effective October 31, 2023, and take up a leadership role at the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) focused on integration and coordination of services for Oregonians.
In a message to OHA staff, Hittle said: “I believe in the impact of our ground-breaking work in Medicaid as much as ever. No other state is doing as much as Oregon to protect and expand health coverage, center equity, and provide innovative new Medicaid benefits that tackle the big problems facing Oregon communities. I am profoundly grateful and humbled to work with so many people on our team, across the agency, and across our state who are so passionate and dedicated to ensuring every person in Oregon has health coverage, access to quality services and providers, and that the health care system works better for everyone. I am incredibly proud of the Medicaid team and our many accomplishments. Now it is time for me to build off our excellent work and support ODHS leadership on priority strategic initiatives for Oregonians.”
OHA Interim Director David Baden said, “Dana has been at the center of Oregon’s efforts to expand health coverage and transform health care for many years. I appreciate everything Dana and her team have accomplished. I look forward to working with her on a smooth transition.”
OHA will launch a search for a permanent Medicaid director in the coming weeks.
