Starting October 1, STD premium costs will be reduced by nearly 80%. You can choose to keep, add, or cancel STD coverage. STD coverage is separate from coverage under the new paid leave program.
You might decide to have both if:
- You plan to use more than 12 weeks of short-term leave per year.
- You live out of state and need STD coverage.
- You earn more than $10,000 per month.
- Starting September 1, your STD premium costs will be reduced by about 80% automatically.
- Your current STD plan will continue through the end of the year.
- During Open Enrollment in October, be sure your choices include a STD plan if you want to keep coverage in 2024.
-
You can't add STD coverage until 2024. Remember to sign up for STD coverage during October’s Open Enrollment if you want it next year.
- Starting in January 2024, your new STD coverage will be about 80% less expensive than it was in the past.
- Coverage from the Oregon Paid Family & Medical Leave Plan starts September 3, 2023, for eligible employees.
- If you take action to cancel STD before September 30, you will not pay STD premiums from October to December 2023.
- Your September STD coverage rate will be reduced by about 80% automatically.
To cancel STD coverage:
*Note: PEBB will not process forms received after September 30. If you miss the deadline, you can cancel coverage during Open Enrollment in October. The change will be effective January 1, 2024.
PEBB is reducing STD plan rates by nearly 80%. Rate changes are automatically effective September 1, 2023, for those who currently have STD coverage. If you are enrolled in STD, you will see changes on your paycheck in September or October:
- If your payroll center was able to update rates in time, you can expect to see reduced rates on your September 1 paycheck.
- If your payroll center was not able to make the rate changes, you can expect to see the reduced rates on your October 1 paycheck. Your October paycheck will also have an adjustment for September rate decreases.
If you are not enrolled in short-term disability benefits currently, you must wait until October's Open Enrollment to add coverage for 2024.
Hosted by Paid Leave Oregon, this webinar is open to all state employees interested in learning more about the program. The session will explain the benefits and how to apply.
