I am pleased to announce two key leadership appointments and an upcoming engagement opportunity, all aimed at helping us make progress toward the ODHS future vision, in which all individuals and families have the services and supports they need to achieve well-being.
Both Aprille and Claire have been serving as interim directors for the past six months and have demonstrated a commitment to working across programs and alongside the community to improve services to individuals, families and children in Oregon. They are the right leaders to guide the programs through big changes under way, including the next phase of the Oregon Eligibility Partnership, which will bring together eligibility operations under one roof, and the Child Welfare Vision for Transformation, which is focused on better-aligned supports for families with the goal of keeping them together safely.
Aprille was previously the Child Welfare Division Deputy Director for Equity, Training and Workforce Development. Aprille is a social worker with more than 25 years of public service focused on system change on behalf of children, youth and families and the well-being of communities. Aprille’s past work includes serving as the Child Welfare Workforce Development Manager at the University of Nevada Las Vegas where she created, implemented, and managed effective workforce development assessment and training to Nevada child welfare workers, supervisors, and providers.
Claire joined ODHS in 2019 as SSP deputy director and the state refugee coordinator. Claire has more than 30 years of experience in community development during which time she has been a strong advocate for anti-poverty programs. She has worked for the state of Oregon for eight years, starting at Oregon Housing and Community Services before coming to ODHS in 2019.
Opportunity for engagement
As Aprille and Claire step into their roles permanently, they want to hear from you about how the community is experiencing the Child Welfare and Self-Sufficiency programs and get input on initiatives that will help improve customer service and outcomes.
Please be on the lookout for more information soon about a forum with these new leaders. Your feedback will be key to helping shape the future of human services.
Sincerely,
Fariborz
