Leaders share their career paths during February ODHS Career Advocates office hours
The Career Advocates invite you to a special presentation this February when Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) leaders LeMont Boyd, Helen Hoang and Antonio Torres share their personal career paths and lessons they've learned along the way with attendees.
The Career Advocates host virtual office hours the first and third Wednesday of every month from 12:30 to 2 p.m., using a single Teams meeting link. In February, those dates are February 1 and February 15.
Facilities support remains strong
The Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) Chief Administrative Office (CAO) is launching a nationwide search for the next person to lead the Office of Facilities Management (OFM) now that Glen Bason has retired from state service. OFM is structured under the ODHS CAO and you can count on OFM Deputy Administrator David Hawkins and the OFM team for seamless facilities-related support.
Quarterly check-ins, benefits and expectations
Quarterly check-ins with employees are required but these meetings — also known as Performance Accountability Feedback (PAF) — offer benefits to both managers and employees. Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) Director Fariborz Pakseresht said, "These check-ins help facilitate understanding of goals, communication, engagement, motivation and relationships between managers and their staff. Providing regular and effective feedback and direction to our staff can result in greater productivity, reduced turnover and higher employee engagement."
Managers have until Jan. 31, 2023, to complete the 2022 fourth quarter check-in meetings and submit the information into Workday. If you already performed a quarterly check-in during the last quarter of 2022 but did not record it yet, please do so no later than the end of this month.
The Department of Administrative Services (DAS) has set an expectation that all state agencies to maintain a 90 percent check-in completion rate each quarter.

Partnerships help protect children at risk of abuse
Keeping children with their families — and in their communities when possible — supports Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) initiatives like the Equity North Star and Building Well-being Together. While the number of children being placed with resource families is trending down, the reality is there are still kids who may be at risk of abuse.
Working through a trauma-informed lens, the Office of Training, Investigations and Safety (OTIS) Investigations Unit conducts investigations to determine if abuse has occurred.
