Tool to help manage volume of email
The Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) and Oregon Health Authority(OHA) have a shared policy about sending emails to large internal groups, like agency or program all-staff lists. The policy is a tool to help manage the number of emails sent to large groups of employees and was last updated in July 2022.
The stated purpose is to help make our internal email communications informative without creating too many email messages. That means we have limits on who is authorized to send mass emails to ODHS employees. People authorized to send emails to large groups include agency directors, their leadership delegates, and employees in the ODHS Office of Communications.

Regular check-ins give everyone a voice
Your manager has until Jan. 31, 2023, to schedule your 2022 fourth quarter check-in with you and submit the information into Workday. The quarterly check-in is set aside for a discussion between each employee and their manager to document progress towards meeting performance expectations and goals in a particular calendar quarter.
These meetings are also known as Performance Accountability Feedback (PAF) sessions and offer benefits to both managers and employees. Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) Director Fariborz Pakseresht said, "These check-ins help facilitate understanding of goals, communication, engagement, motivation and relationships between managers and their staff. Providing regular and effective feedback and direction to our staff can result in greater productivity, reduced turnover and higher employee engagement."
Another benefit of the quarterly check-in is the opportunity to discuss areas in which you wish to develop new skills or strengthen existing ones.

Overcoming power dynamics
Recently, RiSE U shared how being vulnerable and honest with your manager can help get the most out of supervision and personal growth. The truth is, this can be hard to do with power dynamics involved. Power dynamics don’t just show up between employees and managers, but in all of our interactions. Our identities and the roles we fill shape our personal and positional power, both real and perceived, and this has real impacts on our one-one and group interactions.

Whenever someone hears that the auditors are coming, there’s a natural response to pull the covers back over their head. Auditors are going to nit-pick or find fault wherever they can, right? Not necessarily!
While its true that the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) and Oregon Health Authority (OHA) Internal Audit and Consulting (IAC) unit looks to see if there are any issues with a program’s business processes and outcomes or any inefficiencies, the team also looks for equitable outcomes and compliance with policies.
