PORTLAND, Ore. – Jeremy Vandehey, who directs the Oregon Health Authority’s (OHA) Health Policy and Analytics Division, will leave OHA by the end of September to join PacificSource Health Plans as the Oregon Market President.
OHA Director Patrick Allen said, “Jeremy has been a driving force to expand health coverage and make health care more affordable. While his departure represents a big change for OHA, Jeremy’s vision and leadership have put our agency in a strong position to make the promise of better health, better care and lower costs a reality for everyone in Oregon.”
While he served as Governor Brown’s health policy advisor, Vandehey helped secure federal approval of Oregon’s current Section 1115 Medicaid waiver, which preserved Oregon’s transformative coordinated care system. More recently, Vandehey has helped establish the vision for Oregon’s next 1115 waiver and has been leading the strategy to obtain approval from the federal government.
In addition, Vandehey has led the development of legislation that made Oregon the second state in the nation (behind Massachusetts) to set a target to slow the growth of health care costs.
Vandehey has been an architect of major initiatives to preserve and expand health coverage for people in Oregon. Currently, he is leading discussions with the federal government to establish a basic plan that would provide health coverage to people and families with incomes up to 200% of the federal poverty level (FPL).
Vandehey has also led the development of legislation that successfully transitioned the Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace from the Department of Consumer and Business Services (DCBS) to OHA to better leverage the state's purchasing power to improve care and lower costs.
Vandehey will remain at OHA in his current role leading the Health Policy and Analytics Division through the end of September.
