Awab Al-Rawe joined the Innovator Agent team on rotation in June and is working with PacificSource Community Solutions - Lane County, Trillium Community Health Plan Tri-County, and Trillium Southwest. He was born and raised in Baghdad, Iraq. He left home as a refugee to Syria due to the war in 2003. Soon after, he moved to Oregon to earn his B.A. in International Studies and his M.S. in Conflict and Dispute Resolution from the University of Oregon’s School of Law.
Awab serves as an Ombuds with the Oregon Health Authority where he advocates for Oregon Health Plan members to ensure OHP members get quality healthcare and access to care without barriers. One of Awab’s areas of interest and focus has been improving the system of Non-Emergency Medical Transportation through a member-centered approach as it is an essential service that some of the most vulnerable Oregonians rely on to access care.
Previous work experiences include working with the University of Oregon, the Oregon Department of Human Services as a family coach and Ombuds, and the Eugene Police Department as he was hired as the first non-citizen police officer in Oregon.
In his free time, Awab loves to play, watch, and ref football (soccer); practice mediation; trade stocks; and write about economic and political issues.
