In December 2020, workers at the Clatsop County Public Health Department had a tough time keeping up with the demands of the pandemic. The phone lines were jammed with worried callers asking about COVID-19 symptoms, isolation and testing, and other callers reporting businesses ignoring COVID-19 state mandates. Until a call out for volunteers led to a remarkable thing. More than 200 people stepped up to help. They answered phones, gave vaccines and supported each other. Read on to learn how a community pooled its resources and expertise during a challenging and chaotic time.

Join a free Zoom webinar this week to learn about COVID-19 treatments. Experts from Oregon Health Authority (OHA) will go over everything we know about available COVID-19 treatments, such as monoclonal antibodies and antivirals.
COVID-19 experts and health care providers will discuss what treatments are available, how to get them, how much they cost and more.
There will also be an opportunity to ask questions. An ASL interpreter will be present, and closed captioning will be provided. The webinar will be recorded and posted to the OHA website here.

Today’s questions were answered by members of Oregon Health Authority’s (OHA) Immunization Team. We’ll continue to answer your questions on COVID-19 topics in upcoming newsletters.
Q: Will the airport (or other venues that require vaccine records) now require us to use the "My Electronic Vaccine Card" app, or can I continue to just show an image I have of my card?
– John, Newberg
A: “You can still show an image of your card. My Electronic Vaccine Card is completely voluntary, and people in Oregon who are asked to show proof of vaccination currently can share the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) paper vaccination card, a photo of that card, an electronic record provided by a health care provider or a paper copy of a record provided by their provider.”
Q: Can Oregon’s QR codes be used for international travel? – sent to OHA’s immunization help desk
A: “Before traveling internationally you should confirm what the current rules and regulations are for your destination country, as well as the country you are returning to. For countries that require proof of COVID-19 vaccination, it’s important to know that Oregon’s My Electronic Vaccine Card follows the SMART Health Card framework and the Oregon Health Authority is listed as a trusted issuer with the Common Trust Network. The CDC considers vaccination certificates with a QR code a verifiable record that is acceptable for providing proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Always check with the country and airline as regulations are evolving.”
Q: I am having trouble registering. What should I do? – sent to OHA’s immunization help desk
A: "If you tried requesting with an email address and that didn’t work, then try again with your phone number. Make sure your first name, last name, and date of birth are the same as you provided when you received your vaccinations. If your record still isn’t found our Immunization Support Team can help!"
