Welcome to the third edition of Child Welfare Community Connections. As we come into a season of gratitude, I want to express my deepest appreciation for the work of our partners, our staff, and leadership. The work being done in Oregon to promote a prevention-based child welfare system is making a difference. Thank you.
On November 17, the Biden-Harris Administration nominated me for a leadership position in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in the Administration for Children and Families division. Pending U.S. Senate confirmation, I will serve as the Commissioner for the Administration on Children, Youth and Families (ACYF). The ACYF is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and oversees federal programs that support social services that promote the positive growth and development of children, youth and their families, protective services and shelter for children and youth in at-risk situations, and adoption for children with special needs.
We will know more about my transition in late January or early February as the confirmation process evolves, and I will continue to share updates regarding timelines. I also want to reiterate that until the time comes for me to transition, I am 100% focused on the meaningful work we are doing here in Oregon. Outside of the confirmation process, our leadership is collaborating with the Governor’s office, ODHS leadership, and our partners across the state to maintain our steady progress on building a stronger child and family well-being system. Let’s keep pushing forward, together.
With appreciation,
Rebecca Jones Gaston (she/her), Child Welfare Director
