OHP website updates
OHA has updated the following pages with 2020 CCO information:
Talking with patients about quitting tobacco is always important. With the recent outbreak of acute lung injury from vaping, and the dramatic increase in vaping by young people, talking with patients is an urgent need. Vaping is not an FDA-approved way to quit smoking; it sustains nicotine addiction.
Starting the conversation is a critical step in getting someone to start a cessation plan: in Oregon, people who smoke want to quit, and studies show most people expect their doctor to talk to them about it.
Join OHA's tobacco cessation campaign
Oregon Health Authority’s Smokefree Oregon is running online ads, social media, and billboards from now through mid-February to share information about quitting all types of tobacco, including vape.
There are a few easy ways you can join the campaign, amplify quit messages for your patients, and encourage them to use their cessation benefits.
-
Download materials to share with providers in your network or in your clinic.
- At every visit ask your patients, “Do you smoke, vape or use other tobacco products? Would you like to quit?” Use OHA's guide sheet (English) (Spanish) to help you start the conversation.
- Refer patients to the Oregon Tobacco Quit Line by going to quitnow.net/oregon and clicking “Refer a Patient” at the top right of the page, or other resources listed below.
