Although the COVID-19 pandemic prevented ODFW and our volunteer anglers from conducting hook and line surveys in 2020, it couldn’t stop us from our annual FishOn! Hook and Line Survey Newsletter. In the 2020 newsletter we reflect on the past decade of hook and line data collection and two of the captains that were instrumental in making these long-term monitoring surveys a success.

Public Comment: Cape Falcon Management Plan

Image of Cape Falcon Marine Reserve

A draft of the Cape Falcon Marine Reserve Site Management Plan is now out for public comment. The draft plan was developed by ODFW with assistance and collaboration from state and federal agencies, local community members, and other interested stakeholders. Comments on the draft plan should be emailed to odfw.marinereserves@state.or.us by February 28, 2021.

Site management plans, developed for each of Oregon’s marine reserve sites, can be used for:

  • Understanding the state’s mandates guiding implementation of Oregon’s marine reserves and the ODFW Marine Reserves Program.
  • Seeing the state’s and the communities’ priorities for management of the site.
  • Seeing the management strategies ODFW is committed to carrying out for the site in support of scientific monitoring, keeping the public informed, engaging communities, compliance, and enforcement.
  • Understanding the local communities’ interests around additional activities and research, above and beyond what is carried out by ODFW.

Draft Cape Falcon Management Plan – comments due by February 28, 2021

Upcoming HMSC Research Seminar:
The ODFW Marine Reserves Data Dashboard

Dr. Lindsay Aylesworth

Join Dr. Lindsay Aylesworth in this upcoming seminar as she takes us on a deeper dive into ODFW’s marine reserves ecological monitoring and the recently launched ODFW Marine Reserves Data Dashboard – a website that allows users to explore monitoring data collected by ODFW over the last 10 years. Lindsay will explain the expectations of change for each marine reserve, the caveats of using the dashboard to explore monitoring data, and how to formally collaborate with ODFW to use the data for your own research or teaching purposes.

Attend the HMSC Virtual Seminar on Thursday, February 18, 2021 from 3:30pm to 4:30pm
