I recently sat down with the Editor of the Business View Magazine for an interview that culminated into an extensive article which highlighted the City’s “resilience and community spirit.”
The article titled, ‘Coos Bay: A Story of Growth and Community Harmony’ also includes perspectives from Council President Lucinda DiNovo and City Manager Nichole Rutherford. Covering topics around business, tourism, economy, and housing challenges, the article voiced the important partnerships in place that are so vital to the future of Coos Bay’s overall economy, cultural landscape, and commercial appeal.
The article has been included in the February 2024 edition of the digital publication, which I invite you to read for yourself:
https://businessviewmagazine.com/civil-municipal/feb-2024/25/
For the stand-alone article, please read here: https://businessviewmagazine.com/coos-bay-oregon/
According to their website, “Business View Magazine is North America’s best source of news for executives, entrepreneurs, small business owners, franchisees, and anyone else interested in current industry trends and best practices.”

Exciting news! Volunteer opportunities are now open for individuals eager to contribute to the Coos Bay Estuary Management Plan. This is your chance to actively participate in shaping the future of our Coos Estuary and surrounding areas.
As part of our commitment to community involvement and sustainable development, there has been two volunteer committees established:
- Citizen Advisory Committee
- Technical Advisory Committee
These committees will play vital roles in guiding the implementation of the Coos Bay Estuary Management Plan, addressing key issues related to community development through a balanced land use development and environmental conservation.
We invite you to join us in this important endeavor. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with local officials, stakeholders, and fellow community members. Your input will assist in developing policies and initiatives that shape the future of our estuary.
If you are passionate about making a difference and are interested in serving on either of these committees, we encourage you to fill out the applicable volunteer application form. The Coos Bay Public Library recently partnered with the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the American Legion to collect and properly dispose of American flags that were worn, faded, or tattered. The Library collected over 100 flags during the month of February. The flags were turned over on Saturday to DAR who will transport them to the American Legion for disposal.

Our generous community has donated over one-third of the expected cost to repair the Mingus Pool boiler with $48,812.91 donated as of March 12, 2024. Donations are still needed, but community support has the City hopeful that the repairs can start soon. The Mingus Pool has been closed since the boiler failed in mid-December and the repair estimate far exceeds the pool’s budget. Because this pool serves such a large population, it is urgent that the repair be done.
