It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is upon us once again. Despite the contentious political environment and the uncertain financial times we are experiencing in our country, I believe we have a lot to be thankful for. As I reflect upon the holiday, I am mindful that it is an occasion of celebration, the gathering of family and friends, and a time to give thanks for what we do have.
As a member of this community, I am thankful for you, our citizens, the ongoing capital investment in our schools, some newly built homes, along with more homes under construction or in the planning stages, the construction of new buildings and renovations to many older buildings in our community, as well as the various road improvements and wastewater infrastructure projects. I am also thankful to be your mayor, and I believe we are all blessed to have such a great staff and an exemplary group of volunteers here in Coos Bay! The collective work of our volunteers truly makes a difference. Without them, the services our community deserves and expects simply would not be possible. The following is a list (by position) of those who generously donate their time and talents to our community through volunteering with the City:

I want to take this opportunity to wish each and everyone in our community a happy and safe Thanksgiving. As you spend time with your family and/or friends, I challenge you to reflect on what is most important in life and what you have to be thankful for. While we live in challenging times, I know that as I reflect on what is happening in my own life, I have much to be thankful for which truly outweighs the challenges faced. I hope the same for you.
-Joe Benetti, Mayor of Coos Bay

The Coos Bay Police Department (CBPD) would like to recognize Telecommunicator Cathy Larson on achieving her 30 years of service anniversary as a Telecommunicator in the North Coos 9-1-1 Center. Since 1990, Larson has served the communities of Coos Bay, North Bend, and Coquille as a 9-1-1 Dispatcher. She first started working for the North Bend Police Department before joining CBPD in 1992. Larson has served as a Field Training Officer for new employees, and as a Tactical Dispatcher, who can be deployed into the field for major incidents. Larson has also been a member of the department peer support team. Larson holds her Advanced Telecommunicator and Emergency Medical Dispatcher certifications through the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training.
Larson has committed an enormous portion of her life to helping the department and community by providing the best public safety services to our community. Without employees like Larson, the department wouldn’t be able to provide the level of service our citizens expect. Larson’s many years of service are a true testimony of her dedication to the organization, and she is truly valued for her contributions. Please join us in congratulating Telecommunicator Cathy Larson for her 30 years of dedicated service to the Coos Bay Police Department and the citizens of Coos Bay, North Bend, and Coquille.
