NEW BOARD OF PHARMACY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR APPOINTED
The Oregon Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) is pleased to announce the agency’s new director, Jamal Fox. Fox has more than 20 years of experience in the public and private sectors. Fox recently served as City Manager for the City of Takoma Park, Maryland. Prior to Takoma Park, he served as City Administrator for the City of Camas, Washington. He also served as Deputy Chief of Staff to the Mayor of Portland, Oregon and was the City of Portland Parks Property & Business Development Manager. Fox was appointed by Governor Brown to the Oregon Commission on Black Affairs, where he ultimately was elected Chair for several years.
Prior to relocating to the Pacific Northwest, Fox worked in the City Manager’s Office and in the Planning and Community Development Department in the City of Greensboro, North Carolina. At the age of 25, Fox became the youngest person ever to be elected and served on the Greensboro City Council representing District 2 (Northeast Greensboro). He was also a former adjunct professor in political science at North Carolina A&T State University, and has worked as a pharmacy technician and manager in a community pharmacy.
Fox has a Master of Public Administration degree from Capella University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from North Carolina A&T State University. Fox is married with two children and is a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated.
Fox brings experience that translates well to the Board of Pharmacy’s mission to promote, preserve and protect the public health, safety and welfare by ensuring high standards in the practice of pharmacy and by regulating the quality, manufacture, sale and distribution of drugs.
Fox will start his new role with the agency beginning Wednesday, October 25, 2023. The Board, agency staff, partners and stakeholders welcome Mr. Fox to the helm, at the same time, thanking outgoing director Joseph Schnabel for his leadership throughout his tenure.
