Reminder - The Independence State Airport Taxiway, Taxilane, and Apron Surface Seal Project will begin September 2nd, 2025.

Update - A detailed schedule with closure dates for each work area is listed below. A full resolution pdf of the phasing plan is attached via a link at the bottom of this notice.

The Project - This project will include crack seal, asphalt patch repair, surface seal, and new pavement markings on the taxiway, taxilanes, and apron. 

Independence

The Schedule:

  • Work Area 1 (yellow)
    • Closed 8am-8pm* Tuesday September 2nd
    • Closed overnight 8am Monday September 8th through 2pm* Tuesday September 9th
  • Work Area 2 (salmon)
    • Closed 8am-8pm* Wednesday September 3rd
    • Closed overnight 2pm Tuesday September 9th through 2pm* Wednesday September 10th
  • Work Area 3 (green)
    • Closed 8am-8pm* Thursday September 4th
    • Closed 8am-8pm* Monday September 8th
    • Closed overnight 2pm Wednesday September 10th through 8pm* Thursday September 11th
  • Work Area 4 (orange)
    • Closed 8am-8pm* daily Friday September 5th and Saturday September 6th
    • Closed overnight 8am Friday September 12th through 8pm* Saturday September 13th
  • Work Area 5 (pink)
    • Closed overnight 8am Monday September 8th through 8pm* Wednesday September 10th

(*) Reopening dates and times are estimated and subject to change. All surfaces will reopen as soon as work in those respective areas is completed. 

The runway will remain open throughout the project. Though the runway will remain open, back-taxi may be required depending on taxiway and apron closures. Limited portions of the apron and taxilanes may be available for parking or access to hangars.

(!) When each work area is closed, any fixed wing aircraft behind the closed area will not be able to arrive or depart at Independence until that area reopens. Aircraft may relocate to the open portions of the apron prior to an upcoming closure to maintain access to the runway throughout the project.

 (!!) Please check NOTAMs for closure times and the most current airport surface closures. Helicopters may arrive or depart directly to/from open areas of the airport.

(!!!) As always, please remain outside of, and avoid low flight over closed work areas. This includes all pedestrian, vehicle, and aircraft access.
