Reminder: The Oregon Department of Aviation will be refreshing airfield markings at the Independence State Airport (7S5) Tuesday August 6th through Thursday August 8th. Crews will start with the runway, and then complete the rest of the taxiway and apron markings.

Independence Markings

The runway will be closed at 7S5 beginning 6am Tuesday August 6th for painting.

Taxiway, Apron, and Taxilane closures will be in affect 6am local time to 3pm local time daily 8/06-8/08

We will reopen the runway as soon as this work is finished, though work will continue afterward on taxiways and aprons. Please check NOTAMs for the most current information on airport surface closures. Helicopters may arrive or depart directly to/from open areas of the airport. As always, please remain outside of, and avoid low flight over closed work areas.

Update

While this work is primarily maintenance to refresh fading markings, we will make a couple of updates based on FAA Design Standards. These will help improve safety for all pilots and reduce potential for loss of separation on the ground. The issue being address is both the north and south runup areas have insufficient space for parallel/separate centerlines.

At the request of pilots based at 7S5, we will not be refreshing the separate centerline, and we will be adding dashed taxiway edge markings. On the north runup area, we will add an intermediate hold marking where the north HOA taxilane connects to the runup area. The taxiway edge marking is all that we can include on the south end.

7S5 North Runup Area 7S5 South Runup Area

Because there is not sufficient space for separate centerlines in these areas, an aircraft in either area is not clear of the Taxiway Alpha Object Free Area (TOFA). Pilots using Taxiway Alpha should use caution for reduced wingtip clearances if there are aircraft in these areas.

An aircraft on the HOA side of the intermediate hold line on the north end would not interfere with the Taxiway Alpha TOFA.

Thank you for your patience while we improve and maintain the Independence State Airport.
