Help us help you – Take FEMA’s Floodplain Management survey. Ends September 30th
Sounds appealing, right? FEMA and partners from the State NFIP Coordinator offices are seeking just that kind of input.
Collectively, we all understand that managing floodplains can be a challenging task with many responsibilities and actions to coordinate. For this reason, FEMA’s Floodplain Management Division is seeking to redesign the agency’s trainings to better serve the needs of our nation’s 22,668 NFIP Floodplain Administrators and the Participating Communities they represent. To have a meaningful impact, FEMA needs your input.
The survey inquires about your training needs as well as the obstacles and barriers you face in trying to meet and manage floodplain activities.
The results of this survey will be used to design a national Floodplain Administrator training strategy created by FEMA. In addition, the data will be consolidated by state in a public report and will be shared with each State NFIP Coordinator and State Floodplain Managers Association.
The survey is open from June 20-Sept. 30, 2024. Only one survey can be completed from each NFIP participating community. A community’s Floodplain Administrator should be the person filling out the survey.
The survey can be accessed in several ways:
In the wake of historic flooding, the 2020 Oklahoma legislature passed Senate Bill 1269 to create Oklahoma's first statewide flood planning initiative. The Oklahoma Flood Plan, integrated with the Oklahoma Comprehensive Water Plan (OCWP), will raise awareness and motivate actions to reduce flood risk. At the community level, the plan will identify mitigation projects and provide a foundational structure for initiating and coordinating successful floodplain management programs. You can view it here: State Flood Plan Viewer
The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has approved the collection of information under OMB Number 1660-0008, which includes the Elevation Certificate [FEMA Form FF-206-FY-22-152 (formerly 086-0-33)] and Dry Floodproofing Certificate [FEMA Form FF-206-FY-22-153 (formerly 086-0-34)]. The new expiration date of these forms is 06/30/2026. The revised forms should be used going forward.
You may access the forms on the FEMA website at National Flood Insurance Program Underwriting Forms | FEMA.gov.
Highlights of the revisions to the Elevation Certificate include the following: • A new Section H is available for use in all flood zones to determine the building's first floor height for NFIP insurance purposes. Photos must be submitted with all Elevation Certificates. • Instructions for other sections have been revised and clarified, as needed, to ensure greater consistency and accuracy in the information provided. Highlights of the revisions to the Dry Floodproofing Certificate include the following: • A revised format that requires separate certification of building design, elevation, and construction. • A new Required Documentation page.
