Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva received funds in 2022 for several infrastructure projects, including the installation of a pickleball court.
TSET's Board of Directors awarded nearly $4.6 million in funding for 11 projects aimed at improving the health of Oklahomans through improvements in infrastructure. Grants were awarded in nine counties across the state.
TSET Built Environment Grants fund a variety of projects, including the development of comprehensive plans for community parks and trail systems, improvements to community fitness centers and ADA-compliant sidewalks and playgrounds. Projects are divided into two categories: planning, design and policy development, and construction implementation. Several of the programs will be funded over a three-year period.

State Auditor and Inspector Cindy Byrd has appointed Jennifer Needham to the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET) Board of Directors.
Needham is the Dean for Student Engagement at the University of Oklahoma College of Law. She has worked for the University of Oklahoma for over 16 years in a variety of capacities, including serving as the Coordinating Counsel for Regulatory Matters and as the Senior Counsel for OU Health Sciences Center.
Needham will fill the unexpired term of former board member Susanna Gattoni, who passed away unexpectedly in September. That seven-year term will expire on June 30, 2027.
"I am excited to be a part of the incredible work TSET is doing to make Oklahoma a healthier state," said Needham. "I look forward to serving my fellow citizens and helping make an impact on our future."

TSET Board of Directors awarded $191,500 to five school sites and seven school districts across Oklahoma. Grants were awarded for a variety of projects, including improvements to playgrounds, water bottle filling stations and materials for a school garden.
The Healthy Incentive Grants Program encourages schools to adopt policies that promote nutrition, physical activity and tobacco-free lifestyles for students, faculty and staff. Once policies are implemented, schools can apply for grants for health-related projects.

The TSET Health Promotion Research Center (HPRC) is seeking Oklahomans to participate in two newly funded studies on physical activity.
The studies will be conducted in the Physical Behavior Research Hub at the University of Tulsa, which is focused on the use and interpretation of wearable devices and self-report tools to characterize physical activity, sedentary and stationary behaviors (e.g., sitting and standing) and sleep.
Outcomes from this work are used to inform physical behavior surveillance, intervention and health outcomes research.
Part of TSET's core mission is to reduce preventable disease and death through the funding of research.

Kelsey Nation is the Campaign Manager for Shape Your Future and TSET Healthy Youth Initiative. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from the University of Oklahoma, specializing in Public Relations.
Prior to joining TSET, Nation taught 7th grade English Language Arts and both 7th and 4th grade Mild/Moderate Special Education with Deer Creek Public Schools. Before becoming an educator, she served as the Volunteer Coordinator with RSVP of Central Oklahoma, where she recruited and recognized volunteers, wrote content and orchestrated events.
