Youth Action for Health Leadership (YAHL), a new statewide youth-led initiative funded by TSET, is currently accepting applications from high schools and organizations across the state.
As a YAHL partner, schools and organizations work directly with the YAHL staff to recruit and empower young leaders. Partners can earn incentives for their organization while providing a unique opportunity for teens.
Through YAHL, teens will learn invaluable leadership skills and gain resources to advocate for healthy changes in their communities. They will also earn community service hours.
YAHL is a part of the TSET Healthy Youth Initiative, a statewide program focused on preventing and reducing tobacco use and obesity for Oklahomans ages 13-18.

Tobacco users are encouraged to participate in the Great American Smokeout (GASO) challenge on Nov. 18 and experience the benefits of a tobacco-free lifestyle, if only for a day. GASO is an annual event that supports a day-long cessation effort, which can be the first step toward a healthier life. Since 1970, the American Cancer Society event has raised awareness about tobacco cessation and encouraged tobacco users to begin their quit journey.
On GASO and every day of the year, the Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline (OTH) provides free services to help tobacco users quit their own way, Funded by TSET, the OTH offers text and email support, phone and web coaching, patches, gum, lozenges and more for registered participants. Registrants can talk to personal Quit Coaches about their individual needs, choose from a variety of services and get started on the path toward a tobacco-free life.
In addition, the Helpline has partnered with My Life, My Quit to provide quit services to teens. The My Life, My Quit program is a text-based service to help youth quit tobacco, including vaping.

Episode 19 of the TSET Better Health Podcast team explores how TSET incentive grants benefit cities and schools. Since 2012, TSET has awarded Healthy Incentive Grants to more than 130 communities and numerous schools to create healthier local environments. In this episode, the team sits down with Laura Matlock, TSET program officer, for a deep dive into the Healthy Community and School Incentive Grant program.
You will also hear from Dr. Francis Shelton, mayor of Boley Oklahoma and Listena Prickett, retiring principal of Granite Public Schools, about how they have used TSET grants to benefit the students and residents of their communities.
Listena Prickett, speaking about the impact of the PE equipment they purchased with grant funds, explained "I just can't even tell you enough. Kids looked forward to PE. Even the kiddos who didn't like to be active, they couldn't wait to see if they're going to do scooter day or kickball day or pyro day, or if they're going to do jumping jacks. They loved PE. So the impact of this was just huge for our little school."
