Service Oklahoma Expands Flexibility in Electronic Titling Rollout
A statewide press release will be issued today announcing that customers without a lien on their vehicle may now request a paper title. This added flexibility is in response to feedback from customers, lawmakers and industry partners and ensures Oklahomans have options that meet their needs.
Electronic titles became the default for most motor vehicles in Oklahoma as of July 1, 2025, bringing the state in line with national best practices. Titles with an active lien are issued electronically and held by the lienholder, consistent with Oklahoma’s status as a title-holding state.
Key Details to Know
- Electronic titles are the default for vehicles with an active lien
- Customers without a lien may request a paper title at the time of registration without any additional fees
- A paper title may also be requested later through OkCARS or in person at any licensed operator location for the standard fee, which has not changed
- Customers may continue to request a paper title for vehicles with a lien when needed for an out-of-state sale or move
- Customers can verify title status anytime by creating an account at OkCARS.service.ok.gov
- Electronic titles are valid proof of ownership and do not require printing unless specifically needed
