We’ve received reports today, Friday, July 25, that a known scam is once again targeting individuals through fraudulent text messages claiming to be from the “Department of Motor Vehicles.”
As a reminder, these messages are not legitimate. This is part of a nationwide text message scam known as smishing, which uses threatening language to pressure individuals into clicking malicious links. The texts often mention unpaid traffic violations, suspended licenses or legal consequences and direct the recipient to pay a fine or verify information.
Please remember:
- Service Oklahoma will never call or text individuals to request payment or financial information
- Licensed operators also do not send payment requests via phone or text
- Any suspicious message like this should be deleted and reported as spam
Thank you for helping protect Oklahomans and staying alert.
