We are aware of scam messages individuals may have received claiming to be from the “Department of Motor Vehicles” regarding unpaid traffic violations. These messages are part of a nationwide text message scam known as smishing and are not legitimate.
The texts often threaten license suspension, legal action or prosecution and urge recipients to click a link to make a payment. These messages are fraudulent. The senders are not affiliated with Service Oklahoma or any other state agency and appear to be targeting individuals in Oklahoma and across the country using randomly selected phone numbers.
Please be aware that:
- Service Oklahoma never calls or texts to request payment or financial information
- Licensed operators do not send payment requests by phone or text
- Any message like this should be deleted and reported as spam
If a customer has already clicked the link or provided information, advise them to:
Below are examples of the fraudulent messages for reference. If you have any questions, please contact your supervisor. Thank you for helping keep Oklahomans informed and protected.
