Service Oklahoma has begun issuing Cherokee Nation license plates.
The plates have already been delivered to licensed operators outside the Oklahoma City metro area. Meanwhile, LOs within the metro have received notification via OneLink on how to pick theirs up. If you have not received your plates or are experiencing issues, please email mvsupplycorrespondence@service.ok.gov.
As a reminder, if a vehicle is housed on Cherokee Nation tribal land, it must be registered through the Cherokee Nation. If the vehicle is housed outside tribal land, the owner may currently choose to register through either the Cherokee Nation or the state by visiting a Service Oklahoma licensed operator location. This flexibility remains in place until 2029. After that, all Cherokee Nation members with vehicles housed outside tribal land will be required to register through the state.
The application process for Cherokee Nation plates through Service Oklahoma will follow the same procedures currently in place for tribal plate issuance. In addition to the standard documentation required for vehicle registration, each customer will need to provide a Cherokee Nation membership card. Below are examples of cards that can be accepted.
