We’re excited to bring you Volume 1, Issue 5 of the BOOST Report—your go-to source for updates on Project BOOST, Oklahoma’s new driver license system of record coming early 2026.
Moving Forward: From Planning to Action
As we head into the next phase of Project BOOST, our focus is shifting from preparation to execution. With configuration well underway, FAST and Service Oklahoma teams are now finalizing training needs, gearing up for hands-on testing and continuing the critical work of data verification. Each step builds momentum toward a more modern, intuitive and efficient licensing system for all Oklahomans.
Read on for this month’s key updates—and as always, share your questions or ideas here.
Testing, Training & Blackout Dates
Planning for BOOST training, testing and data verification is entering its final stages. We’re working closely with FAST to identify which employees will help create training materials, serve as testers and ensure data accuracy during system conversion.
Here’s what to know:
-
Blackout dates: Certain key dates will require assigned employees to be available to support testing. These dates will be communicated as plans are finalized.
-
Process outlines: Teams were asked to submit detailed descriptions of their current workflows and designate process experts. This information is essential for building realistic training scenarios and testing protocols.
-
Training development: Testing, Training and Data resources are being selected by various divisions and teams will be notified shortly after selection.
Data Verification
A team of employees is being dedicated full-time to compare data from the current system with BOOST. These users will work closely with FAST to ensure data has been transferred correctly and is ready for go-live. Early, rigorous verification helps reduce the risk of errors and ensures a smoother transition next year.
BOOST Roadshows Begin Early June
Starting this month, the BOOST Roadshow will travel across Oklahoma, giving all staff the chance to experience the new system firsthand. Each live session will include:
- A demonstration of the BOOST platform.
- An overview of key benefits and improvements.
- Time to ask questions and engage directly with the system.
Sessions will last approximately 2.5 hours. All employees will be scheduled to attend in person, with virtual make-up options available for those who cannot join onsite. Roadshows will continue through the end of July.
Gear Shifts
BOOST will introduce new ways of working across nearly every part of the licensing process. These changes—called Gear Shifts—reflect the thoughtful improvements uncovered during Definition meetings. We’ve identified 83 Gear Shifts so far, from small tweaks to major transformations. These will be shared in detail ahead of the August testing phase, giving employees time to prepare and adapt.
Spotlight Gear Shift: Credential Entry, Streamlines
One frequently mentioned improvement during user feedback sessions was simplifying the credential issuance process. In BOOST, issuing a Class D credential will require fewer steps and follow a more intuitive sequence—making it easier for staff to stay focused and avoid errors.
What’s new:
- Step-by-step guidance for original issuance
- Pre-validation for key eligibility fields
- Built-in ID verification prompts
This new approach not only reduces training time it also creates a smoother customer experience while serving a customer with fewer clicks. Expect more details and a walkthrough during your BOOST Roadshow session!
AAMVA Site Visit
On May 28, representatives from the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) visited Service Oklahoma to review the BOOST system and they evaluated how it aligns with national standards for driver licensing and credentialing.
This visit was a key milestone as we prepare for our transition to the State-to-State (S2S) Verification Service, a secure national network that helps prevent duplicate licenses across states by allowing agencies to verify if a customer holds a credential elsewhere.
We’re also preparing to adopt the National Record of Issuance Identifier (NRII). NRII is a program that submits medical certificates electronically for CDL holders. When we go live in February, customers will no longer bring/mail in/submit copies of their Med Certs.
Together, these efforts support our goal of modernizing Oklahoma’s licensing system while staying connected to national best practices in security, verification and data integrity.
Booster Club Updates
Booster Club Chairman Ed Ward continues to travel weekly across the state, meeting with driver license examiners and frontline staff to discuss BOOST, answer questions and gather real-time feedback.
Here’s a quick recap from Ed: “In my recent visits, I’ve had some great conversations with staff about BOOST. In Durant, I was able to show the system to one of our examiners and gather helpful questions about the payment process and SAVE verification. I also heard interest in Mobile ID, with several team members mentioning customers have been asking about its return.”
“In Ada, I was able to demonstrate BOOST for both Class D and CDL staff. Many got hands-on time with data entry for an original credential and were pleased with the improved workflow. Feedback like this is essential in shaping how we train and support our teams.”
Ed and other Booster Club members will continue visiting field offices throughout the summer. If you see them, stop and say hello—and don’t hesitate to ask questions or share what you're hearing.
