Your weekly update on all things REAL ID—from statewide progress to staff shoutouts, helping us keep up the momentum.
As we move closer to the May 7, 2025 federal deadline, we’re keeping the focus on access, accuracy and customer confidence. Thanks to your continued support, more Oklahomans are taking action every day.
REAL ID by the Numbers (as of April 14) We’re making progress, and it’s all thanks to the Service Oklahoma team:
- 2.15 million REAL ID-compliant credentials issued statewide
- 43.2% of active Oklahoma credentials are now REAL ID-compliant
- Almost 1,000 REAL ID Mondays and Wednesdays appointments scheduled through the end of the year
TSA Releases More Details on Enforcement Measures The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has confirmed that beginning May 7, 2025, travelers age 18 and older who do not present a REAL ID or other acceptable identification, (such as a valid passport) at airport security checkpoints will be subject to secondary identity screening.
While travelers will not be immediately turned away, TSA notes that they may face delays, additional screening and the possibility of being denied entry to the security checkpoint. The secondary screening process will follow existing TSA protocols used for random screening today and may take additional time.
TSA has stated it is working with airports to create flexibility in how this process is implemented—including logistical layout and staffing—with the goal of minimizing disruptions to operations. However, this process should not be considered a workaround for same-day travel without proper ID.
In addition, TSA has announced that REAL ID–acceptable documentation will be required to enroll in programs like TSA PreCheck and CLEAR starting May 7.
Helping Oklahomans Know What They Need REAL ID is not required for everyone in Oklahoma. It’s only needed to board domestic flights or enter certain federal buildings after May 7. For day-to-day use like driving or identification, a standard license or ID still works.
We’re encouraging customers to check their current license. If it has a gold star, it’s already REAL ID-compliant. If not, the helps them figure out what to bring—including documents like proof of identity, two proofs of Oklahoma residency and name change or immigration/legal presence documents if needed.
Campaign Corner: The Word Is Out Our statewide public awareness campaign, “No, Really," is officially underway.
Radio ads are already on the air, digital billboards are launching across the state and social and TV ads are coming soon. All of it is designed to help people understand what REAL ID is, decide if they need one and take the proper next step.
Keep an eye out for the campaign as it rolls out across Oklahoma!
