TV and Radio Stations Cover Rising REAL ID Compliance Rate The REAL ID compliance rate is going up—and so is the amount of media coverage.
This week, we published a news release announcing that as of March 31, we had issued more than 2.1 million REAL IDs. Of those, almost 1.5 million gold-star credentials were still active in Oklahoma. With nearly 3.5 million total active credentials of all types in the state, our REAL ID compliance rate was about 42.5% ahead of the May 7 federal deadline. That's when a REAL ID may be needed to board domestic flights, visit military bases or certain federal buildings unless the traveler has an unexpired U.S. passport or another acceptable form of ID.
This week, KFOR News 4 and KOCO News 5 in Oklahoma City, as well as KOTV News on 6 in Tulsa, shared the latest numbers with its viewers, reminding them that they don't need to make an appointment to apply for a REAL ID. Oklahomans can simply walk in during normal business hours at any of the 270 Service Oklahoma and licensed operator locations.
However, if customers are too busy during normal business hours, KOKH Fox 25 in Oklahoma City and KJRH 2 News in Tulsa reiterated that we are also accepting after-hour appointments every Monday and Wednesday at six select SOK locations. Those after-hour opportunities will ramp up next month to include Saturdays. And to accommodate even more customers, we will welcome after-hour appointments every evening during deadline week from May 5-9.
The public radio network, KOSU, reminded its listeners about our after-hour appointments as well. If you or your families and friends are interested in reserving a timeslot, visit service.ok.gov/REALID.
