Lt. Governor Matt Pinnell unveiled the Iconic Oklahoma Plate yesterday which will be the new standard issue license plate for the state! With the announcement of the Iconic Oklahoma Plate, Service Oklahoma is gearing up to provide you with inventory of the new plate so you can begin issuing it on Sept. 1.
New Standard Issue Plate Starting Sept. 1
We have worked closely with our partners at the Department of Corrections to ensure all licensed operators have enough inventory on hand to last through the end of the year. The final plates are being completed this week and delivery will begin on Monday, Aug. 5.
While not an automatic reissue for current plate holders, the Iconic Oklahoma Plate will be the standard issue license plate starting Sept. 1. Oklahomans may choose to replace their current license plate with the new standard issue plate for $4 with their annual vehicle registration renewal or $9 outside of their annual renewal.
In addition to the new plates, the pre-registration decals that will be used for the implementation of SB2035 are ready to be distributed to licensed operators.
Pre-Registration Decals to be Issued Starting Sept. 1
In accordance with SB2035, whenever a vehicle is sold in Oklahoma, the dealer or those involved in a private transaction must submit pre-registration information to the state within two business days of the sale starting Sept. 1. A licensed operator, selected in the pre-registration process, will then use the information to mail a metal license plate and pre-registration decals to the customer (or just the decals if the customer is transferring an existing plate) within two business days. A customer has ten days from the date of purchase to get the metal license plate with pre-registration decals on their vehicle.
Service Oklahoma will deliver plate inventory and pre-registration decals for licensed operators in and around Oklahoma City. For those outside Oklahoma City, OCI will deliver your inventory of new plates. Service Oklahoma will ship your decals to you.
Here's what you need to know about the new Iconic Oklahoma Plate!
- New plate inventory will be delivered to all licensed operators no later than Aug. 15.
- You will need to have your location prepped to receive inventory of the Iconic Oklahoma Plates and pre-registration decals.
- When you receive your plate inventory and pre-registration decals, it is important that you send the bill of lading to MV Supply at MVSupplyCorrespondence@service.ok.gov.
- You will not be able to issue the Iconic Oklahoma plate until Sept. 1. The inventory will be in a ‘hold’ status in MVOneLink until then.
- Service Oklahoma is finalizing details for the disposal of remaining Scissortail Plate inventory and we will send out those details in the coming weeks.
