Service Oklahoma has launched a website for all things Senate Bill 2035, creating a one-stop shop for you and your customers to access resources on the changes in the vehicle registration process starting Sept. 1, 2024.
ReadySetTag.com is part of a statewide public awareness campaign called Ready, Set, Tag! The goal of the campaign is to educate Oklahomans about the new, quick and secure vehicle registration process under SB2035, also known as the Mason Treat Act. By limiting the amount of time temporary paper tags are on vehicles, the law aims to improve road safety for drivers and law enforcement officers.
Here's a quick recap of how the law impacts you and your customers:
Vehicles Purchased in Oklahoma Must be Pre-Registered Starting Sept. 1, whenever a vehicle is sold in Oklahoma, the dealer or those involved in a private transaction must submit pre-registration information to the state within two business days of the sale. A licensed operator, selected in the pre-registration process, will then use the information to mail a metal license plate and pre-registration decals to the customer (or just the decals if the customer is transferring an existing plate).
Metal Plates and Pre-Registration Decals are Issued with Pre-Registration If a customer is not transferring an existing plate, they can affix a temporary paper plate to their vehicle that is valid for up to ten days. A customer has ten days from the date of purchase to get the metal license plate with pre-registration decals on their vehicle.
Customers Still have Two Months to Fully Register their Vehicles Oklahomans have two months to complete their full registration with any licensed operator around the state. Customers will then replace the pre-registration decals on their metal plates with the standard month and year decals.
The new website, ReadySetTag.com, breaks down the process step by step, creating a destination to direct your customers should they have questions about how the law works. In the coming weeks, we'll be sharing more resources, training opportunities and tools to help you share in the excitement of the Ready, Set, Tag! campaign.
