Legislative Updates: New Labeling Requirements, Patient License Barcode, Pre-Packaging

Packaging and Labeling: New Messaging

Due to a new state law (SB 518), beginning Nov. 1, 2025, your medical marijuana products will display new messaging on the label that reads:

  • “It is illegal to drive a motor vehicle while under the influence of marijuana or marijuana products.”
  • "Women should not use marijuana or marijuana products during pregnancy because of the risk of birth defects.”
  • "This product has been tested for contaminants.”

If you come across a medical marijuana product without this messaging, please notify us.

New Patient Barcode

Patient License

Beginning Nov. 1, 2025, per SB 774, new and replacement patient licenses will feature a 12-character identifier and a PDF417 barcode instead of the current 24-character identifier.

View the example pictured above.

Pre-Packaging Reminder

Regarding HB 3361 and HB 2807, patients shouldn’t purchase deli-style flower after Nov. 1, 2025, when the grace period for dispensaries to sell it ends. Dispensaries have until Nov. 1 to sell, transfer or waste any deli-style medical marijuana received before June 1, 2025.
