SDE: Third-grade reading brochure for parents

Dear Superintendents and Principals,

With this school year being the first year of full implementation for the third-grade retention portion of the Reading Sufficiency Act (RSA), the Oklahoma State Department of Education has produced a brochure, “Read to Succeed,” to better inform parents about the law.

The tri-fold brochure, of which a PDF in English and Spanish is attached, includes a number of FAQs about the law, its six good-cause exemptions and other material.

We urge you to make the brochures available to parents of your third-grade students, and possibly parents of children in earlier grades.
