October Student Development Spotlight: Kelley Rampey

Get to know Kelley Rampey, our October Student Development Spotlight! Kelley is in her 14th year and currently works with the 9th - 12th grade students at Bixby High School in the Bixby Public School District. Thank you, Kelley, for all you do for your students and their families!

What is your favorite part of or the most rewarding aspect of your position?
Helping students identify their strengths, find their career interests, and give them opportunities to explore those careers through job shadows or internships is the most rewarding aspect of my position. It is exciting to see students light up when they find that one thing they have a passion for and realize it can turn into a great career that meets the demands for the workforce of the future.

Why is creating a comprehensive school counseling program important to you?
The comprehensive school counseling framework is proactive and preventative that includes teachers, counselors, administrators, and parents to ensure the needs of the student are being met. The teamwork approach is the most important part of the process. The team works together to support the academic development of individual students by helping them develop the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to become competent and confident learners.

What quote inspires you?
"Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love." - Mother Teresa I love this quote. It is a timeless reminder that we don't have to be the greatest at our sport, top of the class, or the hardest worker on the job, Instead we can change a students day or outlook on life by doing little things with great love.

What do you do when you need inspiration to tackle another day working on behalf of students?
Inspiration for new creative ideas often come when I am taking a hike or listening to music. Another way I find inspiration is reading through thank you cards students have written me over the years. It is refreshing to read the messages that serve as a reminder as to "Why" I chose education as a career.

What do you do to decompress and refuel for the next day?
Yoga, listening to devotionals and worship music help me decompress and refuel for the next day.
