InspireOK 2024

Join the Oklahoma State Department of Education on July 15 in Tulsa for the InspireOK conference, where educators come together to innovate and inspire. Dive into a day of collaborative learning, sharing insights, and crafting transformative teaching practices tailored for Oklahoma schools. A complimentary continental breakfast and boxed lunch will be provided.

You can get your free ticket now, and you can also register to indicate which sessions you plan to attend. There will be 2 sessions for elementary English language arts.

Literacy Instruction in the Elementary Classroom (Session 2)
This session will provide an overview of the Oklahoma Academic Standards for English Language Arts, the ELA framework, and the elements of effective literacy instruction for foundational skills, comprehension, and writing.

Focusing on Comprehension in Elementary (Session 4)
The session will provide an overview of best practices related to comprehension instruction in the elementary classroom and showcase the new exemplary lesson plans on the English Language Arts framework


Classroom Grants

Class Grant

You can apply for the Oklahoma Classroom Learning and School Supplies (CLASS) Grant!

The State Board of Education is authorized to award one or more grants annually up to $5,000 to classroom teachers from funds available in the Public School Classroom Support Revolving Fund. The awarded grants are used by the grantee teachers to purchase supplies, materials, or equipment for their class or classes.

Application Criteria

  1. The funding request should promote student learning in one or more content areas or skills.
  2. The request should include a specific plan for incorporating supplies, materials, and/or equipment funded by the requested grant into the applying teacher's course(s) for the stated purpose.
  3. Alignment of the purpose and plan for the requested grant with the Oklahoma Academic Standards.

Oklahoma Literacy Association Book Study

OKLA Book Study 2

Looking for some fun summer PD? Join OKLA's Summer Book Club! Participants will be discussing Literacy Changemakers: Bringing the Joy of Reading and Writing into Focus for Teachers and Students. Co-author Kenneth Kunz will be joining the virtual discussion. This book study is open to everyone, even if you have not read the book.  Register here

Focus Question: If JOY undergirds our teaching practices, what could literacy mean for us, our students, their families, and our colleagues?

  • Tuesday, June 18, 11am to 12pm - Shared, Engaged, and Joyful Literacy Leadership, Tell Your Story, Rethinking PD.
  • Tuesday, July 9, 11am to 1pm - Learning Environments, Recalibrating Early and Adolescent Literacy, Easy Grant Winners, and a presentation on resources from the International Literacy Association. 
  • Tuesday, July 23, 11am to 12 pm - Advocating for Multilingual Learners, Family Literacy, New Literacies.

Oklahoma Literacy Association Easy Grants

OKLA Easy Grant

The Oklahoma Literacy Association (OKLA) is committed to the goal of supporting the learning and enjoyment of reading among Oklahoma students. The OKLA Easy Grant is one of the ways OKLA strives to achieve this goal. Each Easy Grant is $100.00.  Awardees will be announced at the Summer Leadership Event on Tuesday, July 9, 2024

Email a letter with the information below to oklahomaliteracy@gmail.com with the subject line Attn: Awards Committee. You must be a member of OKLA to receive the grant. 

  • Name, address, email (used in the summer months), phone number
  • Teaching position, school, and district
  • A brief statement expressing your reason for being an OKLA member
  • A brief statement of how the books will impact the enjoyment of reading and/or literacy skills for your students.
  • A bibliography of the books you would like to purchase. 

It is that easy!  Submissions are due by June 15, 2024.

TRLOK's  2024 Summer Symposium - Language in Leadership: Talking About Oklahoma’s Future.

Danielle Thompson will be the keynote speaker. Two breakouts will offer several sessions featuring Oklahoma educators and advocates. TRLOK will also host a panel of experts to share their thoughts.

OKMTSS Summer Conference

OKMTSS

The Oklahoma State Department of Education, the State Personnel Development Grant, Project AWARE, the State Systemic Improvement Plan- B, and other collaborating offices, are hosting the MTSS Summer Conference. The intent of this conference is to support educators in a focused approach to align and implement an MTSS systems. The conference is not intended to only consist of background knowledge but to provide actionable steps and information to implement high-quality implementations for all students.

OKMTSS on EDPlan Training for All Districts

The OSDE is offering a free intervention management tool for all school districts. This tool is intended to track the district and site-level interventions that schools are already completing. The OSDE is providing weekly training sessions, open to all educators, regarding how to use the OMTSS on EDPlan data management system's intervention platform. Guidance on Using AI in Oklahoma Schools

AI Guidance

The Oklahoma State Department of Education is proud to announce the release of comprehensive guidance aimed at facilitating the responsible and effective use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in K-12 schools across the state.

In today's rapidly evolving educational landscape, the integration of AI technology has become increasingly inevitable. To support districts and educators in navigating this transformative shift, the Oklahoma State Department of Education has developed a pioneering set of recommendations and considerations.

Furthermore, the guidance emphasizes the importance of maintaining a human-centered approach to AI implementation, ensuring that educators remain at the forefront of decision-making processes.

The release of this guidance marks a significant milestone in Oklahoma's commitment to harnessing the power of technology to advance education. The Oklahoma State Department of Education encourages all school districts to utilize the guidance document as a roadmap for integrating AI into their educational practices.

The OSDE will also provide virtual professional learning opportunities for educators and administrators to learn more about AI in education.

Elementary Educator Resources

OSDE Elementary Connect Course

The OSDE has created a centralized Elementary Education resource directly linked to content area standards, frameworks, and family guides for each grade level. The online resource streamlines access to materials, making it easier for elementary educators to locate relevant content across various disciplines in one convenient location. You can access this resource through the OSDE Connect catalog, using the search term: Elementary Education (see image below).
