As we are getting close to the end of school, the Alternative Education team wants to thank you for your hard work and dedication to the students of Oklahoma. Your commitment of going above and beyond is truly inspiring, and we are so fortunate to have you on our team. Alternative Education Coding Procedures

Districts now have access to the AltEd tab in the ASR. The ASR is open for review purposes only, but it is the perfect time for districts to check the students listed under the AltEd tab. Only students who have a student participation record in the student information system (SIS) will populate under the AltEd tab. Only students in this tab will qualify for AltEd funding when the ASR is certified at the end of the school year. An AltEd check mark (indicator) for the student is NOT a student participation record. Check with your SIS vendor for specific instructions related to creating Student Participation records.

Statutory Waiver/Deregulation for an Abbreviated Day

If you do not have an approved Waiver* for the FY25 school year, please begin to start the process of applying for a waiver. Waivers will be accepted from April 1 through October 1.

*STATUTORY WAIVERS – COOP Agreement – When a public school wants to serve fewer than 10 students in the AltEd program instead of entering into a COOP with another district.

OAC 210: 35-29-2 Use both citations for an alternative school to operate with abbreviated hours, less than 4 hours and 12 minutes of instruction per day, five days a week, or 756 hours per year.

Program Highlights

Stilwell has created a program called TRIBE (Teachable, Respectful, Integrity, Boundaries, Effort), which reinforces expectations for all areas of their program. Each classroom and hallway has posters with positive reminders of student expectations.

Muldrow students participated in the ROPES course at People Inc. This Youth and Family Service program is free for school/youth groups ages 9 - 17. The course gives participants the chance to complete activities that contain mental and physical struggles along with emotional risk-taking in a safe setting. The Youth and Family Service Ropes Course helps participants to discover their personal courage and strengths which is a vital role in the development and collaboration of teamwork.
People Inc.'s Ropes Course is designed to help groups and individuals develop or enhance self-confidence and esteem, build trust, and learn decision-making/problem solving skills while experiencing a new and fun adventure with their peers. The Ropes Course encourages participants to take risks in order to discover and face fears that may be holding them back from accomplishing goals and obtaining their own individuality.
