Congratulations to the schools who have applied and received grants from the OK Arts Council! So far, every school who has applied has been awarded the grant – what great opportunities you are providing for your students!!

Classroom Supply Grants for Visual and Performing Arts

23 applications received; 23 sites awarded.
Total amount awarded: $10,300.

Performing Arts Experience Grant

6 applications received; 3 sites awarded; 3 applications in working status.
Total amount awarded: $4,270.

Arts in Alternative Education Grant

16 applications received; 7 sites awarded; 2 sites awaiting award notifications; 7 applications in working status.
Total amount awarded: $32,277.

Capitol Art Field Trip Grant

10 applications received; 9 sites awarded; 1 application in working status.
Total amount awarded: $5,857

School Voice: ICAP Conversations

Join your colleagues for a monthly gathering to collaborate on ICAP best practices, challenges, and solutions. This is an informal time to build relationships and share ideas with other professionals building & leading ICAP programs across the state. We look forward to learning from you!

FAFSA Resources

Senate Bill 93 requires students, beginning with the 2024-2025 school year, to complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to graduate from a public high school. The Bill, as well as FAQs for this legislation and the Opt Out forms, can be found at https://sde.ok.gov/college-career.

Program Highlights

Stillwater - Our school year has started fast and furious at Lincoln Academy. Our Daily Bread and Simmons Bank partnered to provide freezer bags for our students. This will allow our students to take frozen and cold food products home in a safe way. School hasn’t been all just work, we had a lot of fun dressing up for our Back to School Howdy Week. Lincoln students are involved in FCCLA, theater, Turning Point Ranch, Dogs of Lincoln, Salvation Army, Meridian, college tours and are learning life skills such as how to change a tire, jumpstart a car and how to fill out a job application. They are also working hard in the classroom completing their graduation requirements and preparing for life after high school.

Geary- Regional Food Bank

Ordered beef and hot dogs from the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma when they had it available. Brenda Louthan ordered what she could and gave it out to 12 families for almost four months. https://www.regionalfoodbank.org

Guymon –The Guymon Alternative Academy had the incredible opportunity to witness the mesmerizing performance of "Amahl and the Night Visitors," courtesy of the generous support from our community. Hosted by West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas, this opera unfolded as a memorable event for our students.

Thanks to the remarkable generosity of four community members, our students were not only able to attend the opera but were also treated to a delightful steak dinner at the Canyon Steak Company where the donor allowed students to order anything they desired from the menu. Additionally, these kind-hearted sponsors went above and beyond by providing new polos embroidered with our school logo, adding a special touch to our experience.

Our students felt loved by the community around us. It is amazing how many people jump on board to support student progress when they know it’s happening. Excitement for evolving programs is contagious.

The generosity didn't stop there. Our students were given an exclusive backstage tour, led by the lead soprano Sauncey Reddick, a senior music education major, providing a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the magic of theater production as well as the benefits of schooling at WTAMU. This insider's view added depth and understanding to the opera and the university, making it an educational and enriching experience for all.

The impact of this outing goes beyond a night of entertainment; it's a testament to the power of community support and the significance of exposure to the arts for our students. Such experiences foster creativity, cultural appreciation, and a broader perspective on the world. Our students thoroughly enjoyed the evening and built stronger bonds with the staff and one another than remaining inside the school walls would have allowed on its own.

At Guymon Alternative Academy, we are immensely grateful for the support from our community members. Their kindness and dedication to enriching the lives of our students through exposure to the arts are deeply appreciated and will be cherished for years to come.

Sapulpa - For the past two years Sapulpa's Route 66 Christmas Chute has brought families to downtown Sapulpa to enjoy a unique, walkable Christmas experience. This holiday season the students from Sapulpa's Bartlett Academy participated in the event by helping children write letters to Santa. Each child got to write a letter, put it in the Santa mailbox and pick out a candy cane. They had a lovely booth. Great community service and teamwork activity!

Wewoka - Students from the Wewoka’s alternative education program are working on art projects thanks to a grant from OKFineArts (Art Tech: Enhancing Access to Fine Arts). Art Tech is a federally funded grant providing fine arts courses in schools with limited or no arts access. Each student receives a box filled with all sorts of fun art supplies. The student kits correlate to the visual arts curriculum provided in Canvas and facilitated by classroom teachers and part-time teaching artists. The teaching artists are professional artists who work with the school to facilitate weekly arts lessons. Interested in getting a grant for your district?
