Oklahoma Arts Grant-Criteria 13

Oklahoma Arts Council offers the Performing Arts Experience Grant for Alternative Education, a $2,000 grant with no match requirement that Alternative Education sites can use to either: (1) host a performing artist or arts group for an in-school concert or (2) schedule a school field trip to attend a live dance, drama, media arts, or music performance.

This year, the guide contains two different sections. The first section features local artists across the state who are available to travel and perform at alternative education school sites. The second section features a calendar of artistic events in various disciplines scheduled to take place throughout the state.

Here is a link to the extensive list of performers you may choose from.

Oklahoma Rehabilitation Services

The National Center for Disability Education and Training, University Oklahoma Outreach, through a grant from the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services, is making available Pre-Employment Transition Service (Pre-ETS) activities to high school students with disabilities. The activities described below are introductory services and are intended to help students with disabilities get an early start in identifying career interests to achieve community integration, independence, post-secondary education and/or competitive integrated employment.

Pre-ETS are the career-focused preparation activities outlined below:

  • Job Exploration: Exploring the world of work and career options; skills-assessments and interest inventories, labor market and in-demand occupation information.
  • Work-Based Learning: Explore appropriate workplace behaviors, participate in work-site tours and job shadowing experiences.
  • Workplace Readiness: Preparing students for the workplace; soft skills training, peer mentoring, independent living skills, and accessing transportation.
  • Self-Advocacy: Helping the student learn more about themselves, their disabilities, and how to present themselves responsibly, recognize their strengths and how to advocate for their needs and develop strategies for goal setting, time management and problem solving.
  • Post-Secondary Counseling: Exploring options for students seeking careers that require post-secondary education.

National Resource Center for Youth Services

Do you have foster students in your program? This program seeks to serve youth:

  • Ages 14-17 who are in the legal custody of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS) or a federally recognized tribe, and who are living in an out-of-home placement.
  • Ages 18-20 who were in an DHS or tribal custody and living in an out-of-home placement on their 18th birthday, and who have not reached their 21st birthday.
  • Youth who exit foster care after their 16th birthday, and who have not yet reached their 21st birthday.
  • Youth who entered a permanent guardianship or adoption after the age of 16 to achieve permanence, and who have not yet reached their 21st birthday; and
  • Ages 21-26 who are participating in the Education and Training Voucher (ETV) Program.

The University of Oklahoma National Resource Center for Youth Services contracts with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services and Child Welfare Services, to implement the Oklahoma Successful Adulthood (OKSA) program. The program provides training and consultation, conference and event coordination, and statewide support to child welfare staff, tribal staff, resource parents, and contractors working with youth and young adults. These services prepare workers to support young people in preparation for transition to adulthood. In addition, OKSA coordinates the delivery of services and resources directly to OKSA eligible youth and young adults through the OKSA Helpline.

The OKSA mission is to empower youth in and from foster care to lead safer, healthier, more independent and productive lives.  Find out more information here.
