OKcollegestart New User Webinar

Whether you're new to OKcollegestart or are a returning user looking for a refresher, join us to review the basics of the OKcollegestart website. This webinar will introduce the various features available to students and educators on OKcollegestart and review how to meet Individual Career Academic Plan (ICAP) requirements using the website. There will also be time to ask any questions you have! This webinar will be recorded and shared with anyone who registers.

School Counselor Spotlight:

Lee Acers

School Counselor at Oklahoma City Public Schools
Lee is an elementary school counselor committed to building a comprehensive school counseling program that results in positive outcomes for all students. Lee was Oklahoma’s 2019-2020 School Counselor of the Year and serves on the Oklahoma School Counselor Association Board of Directors. We are grateful for all you do to serve your students and your community, Lee!

What makes you unique as a school counselor?
My past experiences as a social worker and a mental health counselor have broadened my perspectives when I work with children at school, helping me to better identify students' needs and collaborate with others.

Why is creating a comprehensive school counseling program important to you?
It is proactive to implement comprehensive school counseling because it is data-driven and designed to serve all students. Therefore, any activities provided for students are intentional. The multi-tiers system is used to serve students who have different needs and strengths. The purposeful nature of the program also serves as a protective factor for me to have appropriate roles and responsibilities and maximize my time in direct and indirect services.

What is a quote that inspires you?
"Love Never Fails"

What do you do when you need inspiration to tackle another day working on behalf of students?
My big inspiration is to be well prepared for each work week, reviewing my quarterly goals and what I want to get accomplished. When I am organized and mentally and physically prepared for the work week. It feeds success and success always builds more success and confidence.

What do you do to decompress and refuel for the next day?
I love walking, especially in nature. I love watching singing contests, especially from Thailand.
