Health and Physical Education Curriculum Framework Project: Phase 2

Health Education Logo

Overview

The Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) is seeking health and physical educators to participate in the Oklahoma Health and Physical Education Curriculum Framework project. Curriculum frameworks are sets of curricular resources developed by Oklahoma teachers to help educators translate the Oklahoma Academic Standards into classroom practice and have been developed for five subject areas to date. Over the next year, the OSDE will work with selected health and physical education teachers to develop a framework for health and physical education. Applications are now available for Year 2 or Phase 2 of the project, which will include the development of assessments, supports to meet the needs of all learners, and instructional resources aligned to each standard.

Four to six writers per school level/subject area will be led by team leaders during Phase 2. Those school levels and subject areas are elementary physical education, secondary physical education, elementary health, and secondary health.  The nine members of the health writing team will be expected to attend meetings from September 2023-March 2024.  The 11 members of the physical education writing team will be expected to attend meetings from January-May, 2024. TSET's Youth Action for Health Leadership (YAHL)

TSET's Youth Action for Health Leadership Program

Help the Next Generation of Leaders Promote a Healthy Oklahoma

Applications are open for TSET’s Youth-Led Health Advocacy Program

Youth Action for Health Leadership (YAHL), a program of the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET), is a youth-led program that partners with schools and organizations to make a meaningful and measurable impact on Oklahoma by promoting healthy behaviors. YAHL provides in-depth training to youth, ongoing support for partners and all the materials needed for activities -- FREE.

The YAHL Partner Program is currently accepting applications from high schools and organizations across the state for the 2023-24 school year. Partners can earn incentives for their organization while providing unique leadership and health policy experience for teens. YAHL partner schools and organizations work directly with the YAHL staff to recruit and empower young leaders.

YAHL youth unite to work directly on public health activities that make it easier to live healthy, active and tobacco-free lives. In so doing, these student leaders gain life-long skills, community service hours and incentives like scholarships. Participants can also apply for the statewide YAHL Leadership Team.

YAHL staff visit each partner school or organization to provide hands-on interactive training for teens that equips YAHL members to directly lead initiatives in their communities across Oklahoma. Teens can be involved on many levels—from leading events and collecting community surveys to meeting with their principal, school board and other key decision-makers to create and support healthier communities.

Current YAHL partner organizations are given priority to participate again for the next school year, but all interested organizations are encouraged to apply. New potential partners, teens and educators can learn more about YAHL and apply to become a partner at YAHLOK.org. Applications will be accepted until the program reaches capacity. YAHL is part of the TSET Healthy Youth Initiative.
