When a student exits from special education as a result of earning a standard diploma or aging out, the LEA must provide the parent and/or adult student:
• Written Notice that the LEA’s obligation to provide FAPE, including special education and related services ends when the student obtains a standard high school diploma or ages out; and
• Summary of Performance of their academic achievement and functional performance along with recommendations concerning how to assist the student in meeting postsecondary goals. The student should have the opportunity to be an active participant in the development of the Summary of Performance (SOP). The SOP should contain the most updated information on the performance of the student and include both the student’s abilities and aspirations. Refer to the Summary Of Performance Guidance Brief and SPED P&P Chapter 7. Non-Discriminatory Practices for more information.
Districts must complete a FY23 LEA Agreement amendment to update their MOE tab. The information listed under the FY21 and FY22 column must match the districts data reported to OCAS. All amendments must be completed by February 24, 2023.
