Tweens and Teens Have a Fresh, New Way to Learn Healthier Habits
Free supporting materials available for schools
Oklahoma has one of the highest youth obesity rates in the U.S. The Swap Up statewide public health education campaign, which is part of the TSET Healthy Youth Initiative, delivers nutrition messages to teens ages 13-18 years old to help reverse this trend.
Swap Up was created specifically for Oklahoma teens and the nutritional challenges they face. The campaign helps teens consider the immediate effects of how they fuel their bodies, by connecting unhealthy feelings to specific food causes. They receive information on how to eat healthier and drink more water, which helps them balance their mood, focus in class and perform better in physical activities. Swap Up also shares reasonable and actionable alternatives to common junk food options teens consume. You can view all Swap Up videos on the TSET Healthy Youth Initiative YouTube channel.
Swap Up also offers an interactive website to help teens further engage with the campaign at SwapUpOK.com. Encourage your students to check it out.
To support and reinforce Swap Up messaging in the classroom, teachers and schools can order free posters, flyers and bookmark cards at TSETHealthyYouth.com/order. Free materials from the TSET Healthy Youth Initiative’s tobacco and vape cessation programs are also available.
For healthy living tips and tools for Oklahomans of all ages, including grade-specific resources, check out Shape Your Future, also a program of TSET.
