Special Education Child Count Certification
As a reminder, certification of the Special Education Child Count Report is NOT a separate process this year. The SSO Child Count application is permanently offline.
When superintendents certify their October 1 Consolidated Report, they will simultaneously certify the Child Count. Please ensure that the Special Education list in the Consolidated Report is accurate and complete for each site before certifying.
Due FRIDAY
The Class Size Verification application is now open in Single Sign-On. Please review how your school's student information system (SIS) is sending information into the application from the WAVE. Errors will be marked with a yellow exclamation point. Please note that all errors will need to be corrected within your local SIS and NOT the application.
Schools now have the opportunity to begin confirming and certifying their data.
Please note the following troubleshooting tips:
- Errors found with teachers oftentimes relate to their certification number, last name or lack thereof. There is a '3 out of 4' verification check between OECS and your SIS. To fix an error, try to input the teacher's birthday in your SIS. In addition, if a teacher does not have a certification number, the school can apply for a "U Number" or an "Uncertified Number." This will remove the error and allow the district to complete the class size verification.
- Errors found with students oftentimes occur due to the student not being assigned a class in your SIS.
- The "Done" button is for school use only and is to be used as a "bookmark" to track your progress.
- SPR (School Personnel Records) will have to be certified prior to certifying the class size verification application.

The due date for the Class Size Verification Application and the Accreditation Application has been extended to this Friday, Oct. 21.

Schools are a vital part of thriving rural communities, and the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET) is seeking your feedback on rural health investments. In collaboration with MetaFund, listening and ideation sessions were convened in six rural Oklahoma communities to identify key challenges and opportunities for improving rural health.
The following survey builds on participant feedback and will be included in a final report submitted to TSET. Responses will be received and summarized by MetaFund.
Please take a moment to respond to the questions linked here. It should take about 5 minutes of your time, and your input will be used to inform decisions about future rural health investments. Please forward to other rural health stakeholders.
Survey responses are due Oct. 25.
Your feedback is greatly appreciated.
If you have any questions, contact Jennifer Lepard at jennifer.lepard@sde.ok.gov or Ed Long, Chief Impact Officer for MetaFund, at elong@metafund.org.
Located in the Wave, the Graduation Part-Time Report requires districts to provide the number of classes in a day and the number of days in a quarter for each school's calendar and schedule.
Each student who did not graduate with his/her cohort due to lack of credits and is enrolled on a part-time basis to meet graduation requirements will need to be reported, along with the number of classes enrolled, number of membership days and the actual number of days the student was in attendance.
High schools that do not have part-time students are still required to enter the number of days in a quarter and classes in a day. The report must be certified each quarter.
The Q1 Graduation Part-Time Report will open tomorrow, Oct. 19. The report is due Nov. 18.

The Chronic Absenteeism Medical Exemption Window is now open in the Accountability Reporting application in Single Sign-On and will close on June 30, 2023.
Any day that a student is absent due to a significant medical condition may be exempted from Chronic Absenteeism reporting. Approved medical conditions — if in alignment with those conditions specified in OAC § 210:10-13-25 and approved by the district’s Medical Exemption Policy — are excluded from reporting. Among other scenarios, this exemption applies to students who are receiving treatment for a chronic or terminal disease or students who have lost an immediate family member.
Chronic Absenteeism Medical Exemptions Resources are available, including a step-by-step guidance document to help school users review students’ data and submit requests.
The Office of Accountability will host a series of weekly virtual meetings at the end of each quarter to assist site users with submitting DVRs and district users with approving or denying each medical exemption. The virtual meetings will be designed to be “working meetings” where you can ask questions or have a staff member walk you through the process.
Webinars will occur on the following dates at 2 p.m.
If you have questions, contact the Office of Accountability at accountability@sde.ok.gov or (405) 522-5169.
Does your area have limited childcare options? One innovative way schools have met the needs of their communities is to offer childcare services. In areas where there are a lack of childcare options for families, often referred to as "childcare deserts," some schools have chosen to fill the gap within the walls of their school buildings.
The Oklahoma Department of Human Services is taking applications for programs in identified child care deserts to help increase accessibility to quality child care in areas of need around the state. The grants are available to new programs or existing programs seeking to increase licensed capacity.

Under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act, state educational agencies must ensure that homeless children and youth have access to the same free, appropriate public education (including public preschool education) as provided to other students. Local liaisons are the key to ensuring that children and youth experiencing homelessness are properly identified and receive the services they need.
The Office of Federal Programs will host a webinar tomorrow for liaisons who are new to the role; however, seasoned liaisons are welcome to attend as well. Participants will learn about their responsibilities as outlined in the McKinney-Vento Act.
