High School Course Code Updates

OSDE, in partnership with the Oklahoma Regents of Higher Education, has approved Aviation Technology (3580) to count as a core credit for Computer Technology for Oklahoma’s Promise and college admissions.

Districts currently offering Aviation courses that include instruction in engineering and/or technology in aviation can utilize the new Aviation Technology (3580) course code for courses and count the courses as meeting computer technology requirements for both the College Preparatory/Work Ready and CORE Curriculum graduation requirements. Please review the Curriculum Checklists for specific graduation requirements of each pathway.

Additionally, Psychology (5641) and Sociology (5720) are eligible to count as the additional unit for the College Preparatory/Work Ready Curriculum requirements.

If you have questions, contact Jenna Jones at jenna.jones@sde.ok.gov.

Free Opportunity for Elementary School Students to Experience Live Theater

Since 2011, the Meyers Theatre for Young Audiences has been inviting public, private and homeschool students to a free theatrical performance in partnership with the Oklahoma City University School of Theatre. We encourage eligible schools to consider attending this year’s performance of “Hansel and Gretel” scheduled for 10 a.m. on Nov. 18 at OCU’s Kirkpatrick Auditorium. The musical has been professionally adapted for kid-friendly content and run time.

More than 45,000 first- through fifth-graders have benefited from the Meyers Theatre for Young Audiences’ unique program, which helps develop thought processing and productive imagination — to say nothing of giving students a fabulous opportunity to experience live theatre!

Although the performances are free, space is limited, so please RSVP to Carrie Leonard at carrie.leonard@cox.net.
