2022-2023 First-Year Special Education Directors Project

First-time special education directors who will be working for an Oklahoma public school during SY2022-23 are eligible to participate in the 2022-23 First-Year Special Education Directors Project.  The program begins on July 1 and is administered by the Oklahoma Directors of Special Services (ODSS)/Cooperative Council for Oklahoma School Administration (CCOSA) under contract with the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE).

Through the program, participating first-year directors will be assigned an experienced special education director/mentor they can call on for assistance and support and will be provided resources and in-person and virtual training.   There is no charge to the first-year director or their district to participate.

**NEW** SNU Special Education and Afraid!

July 27th & 28th - Bethany Campus

August 1st and 2nd - Tulsa SNU Campus

Dr. Lynette Thompson and other special education experts will address several topics surrounding best practices, practical strategies, and IDEA guidelines and policy.

Teachers will experience the obstacles faced in the first few days of school, holding their first IEP meeting, MEEGS meeting, writing an IEP in ED Plan, scheduling multi-level grades and subjects, co-teaching, expectations of the role of special education teacher, the importance of relationships, ideas on how to bridge the gap subject level-standards and where their student is actually performing.

Each participant will have a better understanding of: working in EdPlan Holding IEP Meetings, Discipline, Working alongside Paras, OPRC, FAPE, FERPA, DDSD, ED Plan, Early Childhood Outcomes, Transition Services, Manifestation Determination, Resources, Classroom setup, Scheduling of students, my role in Disproportionality, & End-of-Year Report, and much more.

At the end of this workshop Participants will have the tools and knowledge to navigate the vast jungle of Special Education. Each participant will receive charts, checklists and other items to bring back to their District to assist them starting the new school year.

**Bonus** Each participant will have access to two (2) Zoom Question/Answer Group Sessions in the Fall and two (2) Group sessions in the Spring of the 2022-2023 School year to assist with implementation and problem-solving**

**LAST WEEK** Behavioral Science for Teachers (BeST) Training!

OSDE-Special Education Services is pleased to announce its partnership
with Dr. Scott Singleton, to provide behavioral science training to district
staff to increase its capacity in addressing significant student behavior.
Dr. Scott Singleton BCBA-D, NCSP has worked in the behavioral science and education
field for over 20 years. He has served as a school psychologist in multiple states, the
response to intervention coordinator for a large urban school district, clinical director for a school for children with developmental disabilities and is currently a professor of psychology at the University of Central Oklahoma where he oversees Behavior Central, a center for teacher training and behavioral consultation, and the master’s program in behavior analysis.

These Specially Designed DRS STEM Camps are a no cost one-day in person camp for individuals with Autism. Learn about costs associated with manufacturing products, and how companies price products to make a profit to stay in business. You will create all this using a computer, printer, and related technologies! Most importantly, you will develop technology skills that will last a lifetime!

VIBE 2022

The Transition VIBE Program provides assessment and career/higher education exploration. This week-long program will be offered twice and is designed to prepare the individual for higher education, competitive workforce and independent living to the best of their ability.

**NEW** Early Childhood Outcomes (ECO) Guidance Documents and Professional Development

Three opportunities (August 4, 30, and 31) to improve your understanding of the ECO process and learn how outcomes data supports early childhood special educations programs in meeting the needs of students. **NEW** Professional Development Bonus for District Determinations

Districts may now submit 2021-2022 school year professional development documentation to receive up to two bonus points on their annual district determination (issued in November 2022). Note that not all PD qualifies for bonus points. The deadline for submissions is October 72022.

**NEW** National Resource for Paraeducators

Starting in August 2022, the National Resource Center for Paraeducators (NRCP) and the Center for Technical Assistance for Excellence in Special Education (TAESE) have organized a year of monthly, low-cost, professional development webinars for paraeducators, teachers, administrators, etc.

Saturday Mornings with the NRCP!

Registration is open and ongoing for 12 webinars! One year of professional development!

Join us on the Second Saturday of each month for exciting topics and presenters! The first six months will cover topics such as:

  • Working Effectively with Students with Challenging and Severe Behaviors.
  • Teachers and Paraeducators Team Teaching in the Classroom/On a Tight Schedule: Enhancing Communication Between Paraeducators and General Education Teachers.
  • Autism/Non-Verbal Trainings/Strategies.
  • IEPs, IDEA, Behavior Management Plans, and Transition Plans: What Are My Roles and Responsibilities?
  • Dispelling the Myths of Unreachable, Unteachable, and Uncaring Students.

Each webinar will be $25 per person. Session bundles are available. Six webinars can be purchased for $125, or all 12 can be purchased for $250. Each webinar will also be recorded and made available to all registrants for a strictly limited time.

Office of Special Education Services State Systemic Improvement Plan (SSIP) for K-3 School Sites: Professional Development Sequence

SSIP

The SSIP goal seeks to improve early literacy outcomes in K-3 school sites by the end of 2025. All K-3 school sites will have access to curated universal supports and three years of sequenced professional development. ATSI school sites will have an additional invitation to apply for instructional coaching. 

Registration is now open for State Systemic Improvement Plan (SSIP) Part B Professional Development Sequence Interest
