The Oklahoma Science of Reading Academies provide sustained, job-embedded professional learning on the science of reading at no cost to educators. The academies are grounded in the Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS) learning modules. Cohorts 1 and 2 are in process, and Cohort 3 will begin in August. Registration for Cohort 3 will open in July.
At this time, OSDE is using an interest survey to determine the level of potential participation in Cohort 3. Those who complete the survey will be the first to receive a registration link to Cohort 3 when it becomes available.
LETRS is not a curriculum but comprehensive professional development to help participants become more effective teachers of reading. Learning modules are online so teachers can complete them in whatever way best meets their individual schedules. The program includes activities to apply new learning in classrooms and a live, 6-hour session with a facilitator at the end of each of the 8 units.
Complete the Cohort 3 Interest Survey here.

A number of new education laws are now in effect or will become effective at a later date. View bill language and effective dates below.
SB1307 – (Sen. Coleman and Rep. Vancuren) Beginning July 1, 2023, requires school districts and charter schools serving students in grades 7-12 that issue identification cards to print the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline on either side of the card, with the option of including the Crisis Text Line. Schools may use any existing inventory of non-compliant identification cards until the supply is exhausted. All identification cards issued for the first time and replacement cards must have the new information. Effective November 1, 2022.
SB1659 – (Sen. Newhouse and Rep. Dills) Directs scholarship-granting organizations and educational improvement grant organizations that receive funds under the Oklahoma Equal Opportunity Education Scholarship Act to submit audited financial statements and other required information by April 30, 2024, rather than December 31, 2022, with resubmissions to be made every two years rather than every four years. This information must also be submitted to the chairs of the Senate and House education committees. The bill requires eligible public school foundations and public school districts to submit audited financial statements and information detailing the benefits, successes, or failures of programs offered using grant funding by April 30, 2024, rather than December 31, 2022, with the four-year submission cycle remaining unchanged. Effective November 1, 2022.
The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) was created by the FCC to help households struggling to pay for internet service. As part of that effort, the FCC is mobilizing people and organizations to help raise awareness about the ACP.
Eligible households can enroll in the ACP through an approved provider by visiting ACPBenefit.org.
Note: Households do NOT have to contain Tribal members to take advantage of the $75 subsidy. A household located on land the FCC deems as 'Tribal lands' is eligible for the larger subsidy.
